Testing in general just isn't a solid method of retention. That guy who was turned down might very well have been a ten times better member than the one just let in. It is no accurate representation of my character or how much I know your website rules, structure, and mindset. Just like my classroom example above - I can give you back all the right answers you are asking from me and it wouldn't mean shit. Labeling someone an ignorant troublemaker because they don't have time to sit in IRC all day or study a website like their life depended on it is really naïve. Having this notion of guilty until proven innocent is no way to make friends or lead. There is no one way to measure membership if you want a well rounded successful community.

Some might be great uploaders and shitty communicators in forums. Not everyone is going to be a master uploader. It doesn't matter what tracker we are talking about. One thing you learn once you are in real life leadership positions is that not everyone on your team serves the same purpose. Now, you might have lost what would have been a good member of your community due to unreasonable and unmeasured processes If anything, individuals who don't handle testing and pressure well will feel discouraged once in the tracker, making them almost lurkers until their account goes deactivated. there is nothing statistically proving that a person who passes your exam will have a better chance of uploading material in the manner you want it done. how many classes did you have in school where you learned absolutely nothing, but received a great grade because you just gave back the teacher the information they asked? Truth of the matter is. If you are trying hard to prove yourself and how much you want it, they will keep bouncing you.Ī test shows nothing besides someone being able to regurgitate information back to you. If you play it cool and act like you don't give a shit, chances are you will get in. This is why I believe private trackers with these sort of processes are no different than security at a high end nightclub. And if they feel like you no longer care that much, the power becomes lost on them, it's no longer fun. If you want it bad enough, you will continue to study, sit idle in IRC chats, etc, until THEY want you. They know if you are someone who is just trying to get into their site, or if you are someone who wants it really bad. And like anything else in life, if you practice enough, you can get a hold of what is going on in your environment. The process is simply there (just like with some other trackers) to give staff the endorphin bump of being able to decide someone's tracker fate. A site like RED has been around and talked about for long enough that if someone was going to go undercover and bust the tracker, it would have been done already. These interviews and applications are not meant for security purposes.
In cases such as RED that means invitation rather than interview. So, I try to find ways to get what I want without buying into everyone else's time consuming nonsense. Having a career base in entertainment, I've seen that sort of behavior for enough years that I can spot it and get away. I don't have time for childish games and egos of people who think they are a much bigger deal than they actually are. It is more like me being a well adjusted adult.
